A small and short lived cobalt mine existed c 1848 in a very remote and
inaccessible location above Coledale in the English Lake District, Cumbria.
Rich cobalt ore was found, as an arsenic complex, apink/lilac colour. It
was a very small pocket however but the vein material, of decomposed country
rock stained with iron , looked very similar. A large sum of money was
spent on a mine access road, an incline and a smelter. See pages 47-8 of
Mines of the Lake District Fells by John Adams, Dalesman, 1988, ISBN 0 85206

could scan a page if you contact me offline, Albyn
