At a meeting of the Council of the London and Southern Counties
branch of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining earlier today,
the treasurer, Emma Priestley, brought to our attention the fact that
both the Royal Cornwall Library (some of the books of which are
apparently held in the Guildhall Library, London) and the Camborne
School of Mines, now a part of Exeter University, are planning to sell
off some old geological books and maps from their libraries to raise
cash.
The sale is being handled by Maggs Bros Ltd of 50, Berkley Square,
London W1J 5BA, U.K. telephone +44 (0)20 7493 7160, e-mail

They have produced a catalogue of the items for sale, in the form of
a well-bound booklet entitled "Foundations of Geology", catalogue
number 1342.
I only had a few moments to glance at it, most of my time being taken
up with noting the above details. but I did note that one of the maps for
sale is apparently an original by William Smith.
This could be a collection of historic importance and it has been
suggested that the collections should be donated to the Geological
Museum in London, but apparaently Exeter University wants the money.
