Thanks for your recent update of the position regarding the Coal Authority's
cack-handed handling of its proposal on Access to Britain's Mining Heritage.
What enthralls some of us, and you do not say, is why metal mining etc has
suddenly become of interest to the Coal Authority. Surely, its reason for
being is coal, and coal alone. I doubt that government gave it any legal
authority to meddle in the wider scene.
You mention that it is to fund the latest volume of the history of the coal
industry - surely a thin volume, perhaps best entitled "The Optimistic
Years".
