As some you may already know, Level Fawr at Cwmystwyth is now accessible
again.
The entrance was successfully reopened this past weekend (the 15th) and was
completed with little trouble. Thanks to the following people who turned up
and gave assistance over Friday evening and Saturday:
Simon Hughes, Kelvin Davies, Barry Clarke, Sam the dog, Ivor Richards and
everyone else who arrived on the day;
and the following from ACC:
Andrew Barnes (me), Andrew Linsenmeier, Chris Belton, Ian Benn and Richard
Smith
I've got some photos of the entrance before and after the work was done that
I'll put some links up to as soon as I finish the film and get it developed
(likely early next week) - I'll probably put some of yours up as well Simon
as soon as I get hold of a copy of the CD from Ian.
The new entrance to Level Fawr consists of a Polypipe "Agritwin" with an
internal diameter of 670mm that was donated by Mining Services of Talybont.
The pipe is made from non-degradable polyurethane and now covers the
transition from stone lined tunnel to natural rock. The same type of pipe
has been used to maintain access to Level Fawr Pontrhydygroes and Level Fawr
Cwmrheidol and we can expect the pipe to last for a century. The pipe is
secured with a selection of wood, sandbags of scree and sections of rock
from the collapse. The tram waggon, that was installed on the 8th of April
1970 remains in situ in the entrance.
Thanks to everyone,
Andrew.
