Mike,
Steve Holding who is the NAHMO rep to the NCA attended a meeting at the
weekend including an item on the insurance.
Like your self many clubs have been hit with this.
Bottom line is that insurance is an essential in order to gain access -
however the insurance company involved has reviewed its liabilities and
decided that it required the BCRA to pay £30k this year more than double
previous premiums. The only way tat that time for this to be handled was to
charge it onto clubs and its members the large of which are mine explorers.
The company have indicated they will increase again this coming year however
the BCRA will not as this year will look to change the methods of payment.
It is likely therefore you will pay as an individual but the cost may be
£20+ - effectively the same as you might be paying with multiple memberships
and adding up to the amount the Company want to charge.
I might add the only 2 companies will touch Cavers (I put this in general
terms) and the one policy will cover Republic Ireland for instance.
As information is received we will ensure it is fed through NAMHO and this
forum for the time being watch this space.

Subject: Public Liability Insurance
> I don't think the mining-history list is a place for society and group
politics. However the whole problem of insurance has become a vital issue
for many groups. The Kent Underground research Group in company with many
other organisations has had to make substantial increases. There is a
problem with those people who belong to other groups and are paying several
times over. Also the older members who don't go on trips but continue to
give their support are paying for a service they don't need. I know these
issues are being looked at by the NCA and BCRA but any ideas on the subject
would be helpful. Mike Clich Sec KURG.
