Whilst reading about the battle of Loos in September 1915 there is mention of an enormous headgear on one of the collieries near Lens in northern France. Known by the British as "Tower Bridge" a photograph shows it as a pair of Keope(?) lattice steel winding towers close together and joined by high level gantries.
Not surprisingly it was destroyed during the war but subsequently rebuilt. Can anybody give any further details of where, history etc., and whether in fact it still exists.
My information from "The Battle of Loos" by Philip Warner, Wordsworth Editions, 2000, including the picture.
Regards, Simon.
