> The Centre for Social Research in Health and Health Care brings together
researchers from a range of disciplines to carry out interdisciplinary
research into the delivery and experience of health care, in the context of
current developments in health policy and the associated restructuring of
education for health professionals. Researchers associated with the Centre
are drawn from a wide range of disciplines and subject areas, including
Sociology, Health Policy, Nursing, Education, Pharmacy and Community Health
Sciences (including General Practice, Community Psychiatry and Ageing and
Disability Research). Further information about this Centre can be found at
www.nottingham.ac.uk/CSRHHC.
>
> Successful applicants will undertake doctoral research under the joint
supervision staff drawn from at least two of the collaborating Schools
(Sociology & Social Policy; Nursing; Education; Pharmacy; Community Health
Sciences). They will be based in the School of one of their supervisors.
This will normally be the School which reflects their own
disciplinary/subject background. However, they will also be encouraged
participate in the full range of Centre activities, including Centre
seminars and workshops, and in relevant activities in partner Schools.
>
> An individualised research training programme will be devised for each
student with an emphasis on moving beyond their home discipline. This
programme will reflect their prior experience and training and will equip
students with the knowledge and skills required to conduct high quality
research, within an appropriate time scale, and with a broad-based
understanding of the research practices within a range of health, social and
educational sciences. Students will have access to the modules of an
interdisciplinary Master's degree in Research Methods, which is jointly
delivered by the Schools collaborating in this Centre.
>
> Full tuition fee scholarships will be offered to one full-time
international research student and to one full-time European Union (non-UK)
research student registering in September/October 2004. Further information
