To Glenda and Chris -- with apologies for cross-posting
I am starting a new service in a rural area, and tho I am aware of some of the issues, primarily transportation, I am eager to learn as much as possible. This program is located in rural Southern Ohio US, but I think some of the issues may be the same.
I would appreciate what you might share re. rural midwifery programming.

So much to say and so little time! My doctoral thesis centres on, the
logistics of maternity service provision by midwives in locations distant
from obstetric support. I have also had the experience of setting up a
continuity of midwifery care service within a primary birthing service. I
will be at the Darwin ACMI conference and will also be presenting on the
issue of supporting and maintaining rural midwifery services. Will you be
there? I would love to discuss your project. I also have current
experience
of work with a large midwifery outcomes database.
The more we can do to reintroduce and maintain rural midwifery services
for
women to stay with their families during such an important time in their
lives, the better.
Cheers

Subject: Case Management Model of Midwifery
We are planning to pilot a Case Management model of midwifery care in a
small rural community. The model will look at enabling women to have
their
antenatal and postnatal care in their own community but they will have to
travel to a lager community for their intra-partum care.
We are interested to hear form anyone who is working with a similar model
and in particular we are interested in the 'performance indicators' use
to
evaluate the model.
Many thanks,
