Qualitative Psychology Conference
10th-11th April 2003
'Emerging complexity in conducting qualitative research in psychology'
Call for papers
The School of Psychology, University of Leeds will be hosting a conference
dedicated to qualitative research in psychology. We are delighted to
announce that our keynote speakers will be Rom Harré (TBC) and Karen
Henwood.
We are seeking presentations that explore the ways in which qualitative
psychologists have experienced their research becoming complex in ways that
were not anticipated at the outset. This could include:
 Deciding on the appropriate qualitative method to use
 Recruiting participants and gaining access
 Interviewing and the selection of qualitative data
 Managing qualitative data
 Complexity in conducting qualitative analysis
 Evaluating the quality of qualitative research
 Writing-up qualitative research for examination or publication.
Presentations should discuss why the emerging complexities were not
anticipated, how these issues were managed, and what lessons can be passed
on to other qualitative researchers in psychology.
We are requesting individual papers rather than symposia in order to
encourage the exploration of diverse issues. Furthermore, individual
presentations will facilitate discussion of complexities experienced by
qualitative researchers who have worked alone and/or as part of a research
team.
Deadline for submission of 250 word (max) abstract:
Friday 10th January 2003
Please send to Anna Madill at [log in to unmask]
We will complete the selection of presentations by:
Monday 3rd February 2003
