The Wellcome Trust Centre for the History of Medicine at University College
London and the Obstetric Anaesthetists' Association are seeking a suitably
qualified graduate interested in undertaking research for a PhD on the
subject of "The Origins of Obstetric Anaesthesia and Analgesia both within
the UK and abroad". The position will be funded for three years by the
Centre and the Association jointly at c.16,000 British pounds p.a. and the
aim is both the completion of the doctorate and the subsequent publication
of a monograph. It is anticipated that the project will appeal to a recent
graduate in history or science with an interest in the history of obstetric
anaesthesia as a discipline; a detailed knowledge of the British context is
at this stage not required. The research will be supervised by a historian
and an obstetric anaesthetist. Applications should be sent by 8 December
