The Economic and Social Research Council has awarded four doctoral
studentships linked to the new ESRC Centre for Social and Economic
Research on Innovation in Genomics (INNOGEN) at the University of
Edinburgh and the Open University. The studentships are linked to the
following research projects:
The changing sociality of life sciences: from molecular biology to
genomics
Donor Assisted Conception, Genetic Knowledge and the Meanings
of Kinship
Locational dynamics of the UK genomics industry
Innovation and diffusion of agricultural GMOs in Central and
Eastern Europe
The studenthsips will start in October 2003, funded on the 1 + 3 model
and open to UK and EU students. Applications are invited by Friday 27th
June for these and other postgraduate research opportunities arising.
Candidates should have a good degree (at least 2:1) in a relevant social
science subject (though we will also consider applicants with a technical
