We are seeking an experienced and innovative teacher and researcher to join
the highly successful School of Cultural Studies and to contribute to its
management at a senior level. As Associate Head of School, for an initial
period of three years, you will join an established and growing School
which is recognised as a leader in its field. You will work with a team of
24 specialist academic staff, many with national and international
reputations, all of whom are teachers and active researchers within a wide
range of specialisms in the field.
You will take a leading role in ensuring the quality and development of the
School’s curriculum, teaching, learning and assessment at undergraduate and
postgraduate levels. You will also have responsibility for the marketing of
the School’s activities and awards. You may support the Head of School in
providing research leadership.
The School has been enjoying a rapid period of expansion as a result of its
success in student recruitment and research funding. Our long-established
Cultural and Media Studies BA Award, which is well known for its
distinctive mix of theory and practice, and an established, MA in Cultural
and Media Studies, have now been augmented by a half award in Film Studies
and a theory/practice MA in Film and Video. The half award in Film Studies
is set to become a full BA in 2005. We also contribute to a range of 11
joint awards with Cultural and Media Studies and with Film Studies. The
School also offers MPhil/PhD supervision by the traditional route and, from
2004, through its membership of the New Route PhD Consortium.
The successful candidate will be able to contribute to the School's
teaching and research in an area of Media, Cultural or Film Studies,
including media production, and will have a broad understanding of the
field as a whole. We seek someone with the skill, imagination and
motivation to help consolidate the School's success and to help lead its
next phase of development.
