Just to throw in another source of technical checking...
Applying for National Grid for Learning registration is free and involves a
basic tech check with feedback and suggestions for improvement if needed.
This might come in especially handy if you are having difficulty convincing
someone that more work/funding is needed if a site is to meet 'Government'
standards... as the NGfL is funded by the DfES. All NOF Digitise sites are
supposed to meet NGfL criteria.
The NGfL guidelines and an online form can be found at www.ngfl.gov.uk Click
on 'About the NGfL' and then 'Link your site'. Sites to not have to be
complete to be submitted although we do need to know the date they will go
live.

Subject: FW: Web sites of potential interest - access assessment
Jane,
There are 154 project receiving funding from the New Opportunities Fund Digi
Programme (http://www.nof-digitise.org/index.htm) each of which will result
in a web site that has to meet a set of technical specifications developed
by NOF:
http://www.peoplesnetwork.gov.uk/content/technical.asp These standards
include accessibility issues.
As websites are launched (The programme continues until spring 2004), they
are being listed at the following site:
http://www.enrichuk.net/. Folks developing these sites will be building up a
lot of expertise about coping with the sort of issues that you are facing.
Hope this helps,

Peter,
Thanks for your comments on the accessibility of these and other sites - a
good reminder to us all.
Can you recommend any sites that *do* meet the standards???
If you know of any that are both accessible and well designed I'd be even
more pleased to hear about them!
Best wishes,
Jane
