Focus Theme: The Impact of Financial Markets on Media Management Practices
Dear Colleagues:
JMM - The International Journal on Media Management
is leading forum for the communication of research data
and high quality information on all significant aspects
of media management.
Guest Editor: C. Ann Hollifield, University of Georgia, USA
Investors have been called the media industry's "third market." Among
major media corporations, the competition for investment capital has
become a major focus of strategic management, no less than the
competition for audiences and advertisers. Over
the past 20 years, however, eroding market share and growing debt loads
have complicated media industry financial management. At the same time,
changes in corporate governance and the global investment market have
raised investors' expectations of corporate performance and increased
the pressure on media executives to demonstrate continuous profit
growth.
This issue will look at how financial pressures and the competition for
investment capital are affecting media management, content and
performance. Articles devoted to the issue's theme will focus on
financial management, corporate governance, changes in global investment
markets and strategies, and their impact on the behavior of media
corporations and executives. The special issue will provide insight into
these issues based in a variety of theoretical perspectives and
methodological approaches
Topics:
Manuscripts are solicited on topics including:
- strategic financial management for media corporations
- competitive conditions for media corporations in the investment
markets
- financial decisions and media corporate performance
