The Second Meeting of the Taxonomy Network will be held at the
Wellcome Trust on the 10th of September at 4 pm. Chris Porter,
Director of Taxonomy Services of Factiva will talk about their new
Pharmaceutical Taxonomy.
Taxonomy has a jisc mailing list:
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/TAXONOMY.html ; the list archives are
brief, but they will give some idea of the purposes of the network.
Chris's presentation will be followed by 'taxonomising the
taxonomisers': Ruth Frost, Content Architect at the Wellcome Trust,
and I are working on the intellectually elegant and almost mystical
process of achieving this: more will be revealed nearer the time. For
now, we are asking people to think of between 5 and 25 terms that
describe themselves as a taxonomical object: sector(s), job
functions, professional skills - that sort of thing. We will be
delighted to expound on the arcanum of meta-taxonomising, but you
will regret it, believe me. The object is to make it easier for us to
find relevant expertise within the network - which continues to grow,
I'm happy to report.
Factiva are very generously sponsoring drinks and pleasantly salty
fatty food, including my favourite: root vegetable crisps.
There is no charge for this meeting. If you really want to push your
luck you can call me to ask for travelling expenses and listen to me
laughing like a drain for three hours. So, once again, apologies for
those not within hiking distance of the World's Greatest City, but I
am looking to find northern/Caledonian collaborators to assist with
Taxonomy North, I promise.
The meeting is open to anyone with a professional or academic
interest in the practical application of organisational taxonomies.
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE. If you would like to attend please contact
Verena Collins-Magee 020 7611 8229 [log in to unmask] .
On the evening, if your name's not on the list, you can't come in.
Whether you are a seasoned taxonomiser or just flirting with the
sinister art, we would be delighetd to see you.
