Following events such as the recent collapse of WorldCom and Enron, we have all become much more suspicious about corporate documents and their validity. Business and accounting standards and disclosure requirements have been overhauled in light of these very public disasters and this is likely to cause significant changes in the way information professionals do their work.
We have two speakers to help us understand some of the changes that are happening. Phillip Brown, Founder and CEO of GSI Online, will be discussing what information can be found in the many US corporate documents that are available, how to interpret some of the data and talk about changes that are taking place in the USA. Gerard Milne, a strategic consultant at Clifford Chance and a trained lawyer, will be talking from the UK perspective and looking at how potential changes in corporate governance could prevent an "Enronesque" style disaster in Europe.
CHAIR
Richard Beveridge, Business Development Manager, Instant Library
