CILIP (The Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals) has established a Health Executive Advisory Group (HEAG) chaired by Dr Judith Palmer. Executive Advisory Groups are task and finish groups designed to provide fresh thinking and insight into key policy areas of concern to CILIP. Reports from other Executive Advisory Groups have covered regionalism and devolution, a national information plan, "CILIP in the Knowledge Economy" and social inclusion, The HEAG's terms of reference are as follows:
"To identify and explore the key agendas and challenges that LIS faces within healthcare; to consider the relevance of the developments within LIS healthcare to the LIS profession more generally; and to advise CILIP on its role and activities within the healthcare sector".
As part of its work programme the HEAG held a workshop in May 2003 to help it identify the key issues and trends in the UK healthcare sector. You will find a summation of the main findings from this workshop on CILIP's website at:
<http://www.cilip.org.uk/advocacy/eags/health.html>
The overarching theme of the workshop was seen to be the "Future proofing the profession". We would welcome your views on the issues identified in the workshop, and any you think that have been overlooked. We are particularly keen on drawing out any lessons that the LIS profession in the healthcare sector may provide for other parts of the library and information profession and also on the role of CILIP. You will be able to respond by using the response form on the website. The evidence you provide will be an important resource for the report we will present to CILIP in Spring 2004.
Apologies for any cross-posting
