There has been a lengthy thread on the PN List (still running) about
research calls to libraries from various bodies (all legitimate as it
turns out).
In my experience there may be lessons to learn from this:
1 frontline staff need to know how to respond authoritatively where
necessary and, where they are unable to do so, how to manage a reply
from elsewhere in the organisation
2 organisations (especially local ones) seeking responses from libraries
should know who to contact if senior staff are making themselves known
to their local and regional community representatives
We often complain as a profession that we are not consulted by others,
being overlooked when decisions are in the making. But sometimes you
have to invite yourselves to the conference table.
Just two thoughts that rang bells as I was reading the contributions
(from the luxury of "retirement", I should add!).
