My understanding is that Ry Cooder has been forced to end his collaboration
with Cuban musicians.

Subject: Re: Impending US invasion of Cuba
Focusing on the cultural impact of a US invasion of Cuba and mindful of the
negative effect on the conservation of culture which resulted from the Iraq
War, I wonder if there is likely to be a greater awareness of such risks
now? Especially as Cuban culture has had (and still has) a direct influence
on US arts, particularly music. Hence my reference to Ry Cooder in a
previous message.
I suspect that if that question were to be put to the US Government they
would repeat the argument for war as a form of corporate freedom fighting.
Such an argument denies the level of cultural destruction which follows
successful invasions, whether or not a new cultural direction is taken in
the longer term.
I strongly agree that we need to voice our opinions with an appropriate
focus to counter balance the politico-economic one.
If there is a channel for such a response, perhaps John Pateman could
identify it for us?
