Apologies for cross-posting.
Dear Colleagues
May I draw your attention to CILIP's Equal Opportunities Briefings, and specifically that regarding Library and Information Services for Older People. Links to all of CILIP's Equal Opportunities Briefings are available at http://www.cilip.org.uk/practice/equalopps.html.
Best wishes

CILIP Equal Opportunities Briefings:
Library and Information Services for Older People
http://www.cilip.org.uk/practice/olderpeople.html
Approximately 15 per cent of people living in the United Kingdom are aged 65 or over. This age group accounts for nearly a third of public library users. Many older people lead very busy lives. However, a significant number of people over 65 are less active and need additional support if their library and information needs are to be met.
This CILIP Briefing gives pointers for librarians and information professionals about issues such as getting to know the communities they serve, publicising services for older people, services for the housebound and awareness-raising for library staff of the needs of older people. It also draws attention to present and forthcoming legislation (for example the Disability Discrimination Act) that will impact on library and information provision for those aged over 65. Good practice relating to services for older people is included in the Briefing, as is a list of references for futher information.
This Briefing, which forms part of a series focusing on equal opportunities issues, will be useful to those who are developing library and information services for older people, or to those who wish to know more about current practice and legal requirements in this area.
