I am grateful to Werner Schwartz for making Edouard Méténier's report
available on-line so rapidly.
In the added introduction the author makes reference to IFLA's
"Assessment of damage to Libraries and Archives in Iraq" on the
archive of IraqCrisis. You can also find it directly at IFLA:
http://www.ifla.org/VI/4/admin/iraq0205.htm
He also makes reference to the bibliography we are undertaking here,
and to his [excellent and useful] annotations on that Bibliography.
The current version:
Preliminary Bibliography of Books Documenting the Contents of The
Iraq Museum, The National Library and Archives, and the Ms Collection
Of The Ministry Of Religious Endowments - all in Baghdad - as Well as
of other Damaged or Destroyed Collections in Baghdad or Elsewhere in
Iraq Including Mosul, Basrah, Suleimaniyeh, Etc. Version 18: May 19,
2003 - 193 titles (Indexing of these volumes by Iraq Museum [IM]
number is underway and continuing. In this version of the
bibliography, 10,041 IM numbers of published objects are listed
following the volume in which they appear. Many of these volumes
also include ilustrations and descriptions of objects in the
collections of the Iraq Museum which either did not have IM numbers
assigned at the time of publication, or for which the IM numbers are
not indicated in the publication.)
is always at:
http://www-oi.uchicago.edu/OI/IRAQ/iraq_bibliography.html
Because Edouard Méténier's comments refer to the bibliography by
numbered item, I have archived an earlier version of the Bibliography
for easier reference:
That version is at:
http://www-oi.uchicago.edu/OI/IRAQ/Bibliography11.htm
and the commentary is at:
https://listhost.uchicago.edu/pipermail/iraqcrisis/2003-May/000081.html
Any and all are welcome also to subscribe to IraqCrisis: A moderated
list for communicating substantive information on cultural property
damaged, destroyed or lost from Libraries and Museums in Iraq during
and after the war in April 2003, and on the worldwide response to the
crisis:
