Dear Dr. Madge,
ERPANET and CODATA are pleased to announce their international workshop
on
the selection, appraisal, and retention of digital scientific data. This
workshop will be held from the 15th -17th of December 2003 at the
Biblioteca
Nacional in Lisbon, Portugal.
ERPANET is collaborating with CODATA, an interdisciplinary committee of
the
International Council for Science, to convene the workshop, which will
bring
together researchers, data managers, information specialists,
archivists,
and science policy experts to discuss the issues involved in making
critical
decisions regarding the long-term preservation of the scientific record.
One of the major aims for this workshop is to provide an international
forum
to exchange information about data archiving policies and practices
across
different scientific, institutional, and national contexts. The
workshop
will use disciplinary and interdisciplinary case studies to identify
common
themes regarding the selection, appraisal, and retention of S&T data for
long-term preservation, regardless of discipline and those that are
unique
to a discipline or a category of data. Additional background
information
can be found at www.erpanet.org.
We would be grateful if you could distribute the attached announcement
among
you
colleagues. Please feel free to contact me should you require any
further
information.
Best regards,
Joy Davidson
