Further to my previous e-mail about evaluating information skills training
(and thanks to all of those who responded, it's certainly an area in which
many of you are interested), I am keen to know more about the options for
delivery/format of training.
At present, we mainly offer the 'traditional' model of training, i.e. we
advertise 2-3 hour hands-on training courses (on the Internet; healthcare
databases; and Cochrane) based at IT training rooms which individuals from
any profession can book onto. We also offer occasional group workplace
training sessions and one-to-ones of a similar duration and content, and our
training packs can be downloaded from our website.
I would be interested to know about services that solely/mainly provide the
following methods of delivery and how successful (or otherwise) this has
been:
workplace training;
training for groups of single disciplines/professions (either in the
workplace or IT training rooms);
e-learning;
advanced training courses rather than introductory Internet ones (e.g. to
advanced users on healthcare databases);
limiting training to specific groups of staff;
one-to-one training;
training on request rather than advertising specific courses/dates;
drop-in sessions;
presentations to large groups
I would also be interested to hear about any other delivery formats/methods,
and also from those of you who have decided
NOT to conduct training at all, and the reasons for this (e.g. if you have
decided that it is more effective if library staff conduct literature
searches for staff, rather than training them).
thanks in advance!
best wishes
