Hello again
Here is a summary of the responses to my recent post requesting information
about online reading list systems.
The majority of the respondents were also considering the issue and
requested a copy of my summary!
A number of Talis sites are using TalisList, the module for managing reading
lists, details are at http://www.talis.com/products/lms/talislist.htm . In
theory TalisList could be used with other library management systems but no
non-Talis sites have signed up yet.
See
http://www.biblio-tech.com//btr11/S_PD.cfm?DO=A&ArticleID=455&XSection=BTR_Business&issueno=25
for more info.
A number of respondents are either using, or are evaluating,
ReadingListDirect (www.readinglistdirect.com/info) .
Loughborough University use a home-grown system that is available to other
institutions via GPL (the software can be downloaded freely from
http://bookworm.lboro.ac.uk/distribution.html ). One other institution
(also using Aleph) is considering implementing the system.
I also received some information on xDirectory (see
http://www.espritsoutronpartnership.com/products/xdirectory/index.asp )
Thanks to everyone who responded,
Yasmine

Subject: Online reading lists
Hello
I am interested in finding out what systems are in use for creating online
reading lists which integrate various types of media, eg. items on library
catalogs, digitized articles stored locally, stable links to online journal
articles etc. Most of the systems I have looked at only cater for one type.
I'd also be interested in whether the system is part of a VLE/MLE or not,
whether library or academic staff add material to the system, and what is
done about copyright clearance for digitized items.
Please reply to me off-list and I will summarize.
Thanks,
Yasmine
