A committed and enthusiastic individual is required for this exciting
and challenging opportunity to lead the technical development of the
Arts
and Creative Industries hub. This service will form part of the JISC
Resource Discovery Network (RDN) and will focus on providing a high
quality subject gateway service for the Arts and Creative Industries.
The Technical Officer will report to the ArtIfact Service Manager and
will work closely with the PSIgate and GEsource technical team. The
successful candidate will be responsible for the technical development
and operations of the service and will take a lead in the planning,
implementation and development of all aspects of IT for the service.
The person appointed will be a good organiser and communicator, and
will be thoroughly familiar with web-based services, with experience of
managing database systems and a work-based knowledge of operating
systems and networks. Familiarity with relevant software and
standards used by the RDN, such as ROADS/MySQL, Dublin Core, Z39.50 and
the OAI Metadata Harvesting Protocol is highly desirable. Experience
of web site design and maintenance is also highly desirable. Candidates
should have a degree or equivalent qualification.
The Manchester Metropolitan University is the lead institution for the
ArtIfact service, on behalf of the Universities in Manchester and
Salford
(CALIM) in partnership with the London Institute and South Cheshire
College.
