Many thanks to everyone who replied - your responses have been very useful.
Summary of responses as follows:
The Disaster Management Group of the M25 Consortium of Academic Libraries
has produced a disaster control plan template which is freely available on
the web at http://www.m25lib.ac.uk/M25dcp/. The East Midlands Universities
have adapted this template to draw up their own Disaster Plan. They also
recommended joining the Disaster Recovery registration scheme run by Riley
Dunn & Wilson - details available at
http://www.rdw.co.uk/disaster_recovery/disaster_index.htm
Queen's University, Belfast, provided a link to the Northeast Document
Conservation Center at http://www.nedcc.org/.
See in particular leaflet nos.18 & 19 (Disaster Planning and Worksheet
Outlining a Disaster Plan) at
http://www.nedcc.org/leaflets/leaf.htm#english.
The University of Cambridge draft disaster plan (used by many of the
Cambridge Colleges) is freely available at
http://www.lib.cam.ac.uk/UnionCatalogue/
The University of Newcastle upon Tyne Disaster Plan is freely available on
the web at www.ncl.ac.uk/bindert/disaster.html. The University Library also
organises one day courses on Disaster Planning in academic libraries. The
next two are in Ireland (Belfast in May and Limerick in June) and another is
planned for October in Newcastle. Contact Jon Purcell, Deputy Librarian,
Robinson Library if you are interested.
The following libraries also kindly supplied a copy of their disaster plans:
