News about the project "The European Library (TEL) - The Gate to Europe's
Knowledge" (www.europeanlibrary.org)
Presentations about Business planning for the European Library and Portal
software: Analysis of a Call for Information are now available!
As global networks grow in significance it is getting more important to
share knowledge and standards. By combining the resources of some of
Europe's national libraries the idea of a single European Library has moved
a step closer to becoming a reality. The European Library (TEL), a 36-month
co-operative project of Key Action 3 of the Information Society Technologies
(IST) research programme will provide the groundwork on which to build a
pan-European service.
The presentation about Business Planning for the European Library reflects
the state of the business planning process in TEL of summer 2003 and seeks
to answer some fundamental questions, e.g. what the nature of the TEL
service is, who it is for, how the service will be achieved etc.
The presentation about Portal software: Analysis of a Call for Information
describes the functional model of the future TEL service and offers an
elaborated list of requirements for an appropriate portal software. A Call
for Information was carried out to support the decision for a portal
software for the future TEL service.
The presentations are now available on the project website
www.europeanlibrary.org, there Results -> August 2003.
