Forwarded for interest of lib-libhistorians who are not also SHARPists.
The comments that "You can tell a lot about a person from what he
reads" chime interestingly with the current SHARP-L discussion of the
ethics of refusing government agents access to circulation records, in
the interests of personal confidentiality - it seems that under the
"anti-terrorist" Patriot Act the FBI and others may be demanding to see
records, which librarians are naturally unhappy about ... but looting
Hitler's library and drawing conclusions from it may be a different
matter. Will Saddam's private library be "secured" and similarly removed
to the Library of Congress, I wonder?
