Library History essay 2001
The winner of the Library History Group prize for the best essay in the field of library history in 2001 is: 'Angry sentinels and businesslike women:
identity and marital status in 1950s English career novels', Library History, Volume 17(2), July 2001, pp. 83-90. The article was co-authored by
Evelyn Kerslake and Janine Liladhar, who share the award, which is sponsored by Emerald and is worth £200. The authors distinguished
themselves in their study not only by excavating a relatively hidden aspect of the history of librarianship, but also by the methodology they
employed in drawing on gender theory and history, as well as a set of sources until now passed over by library historians.
