Hi,
I have agreed to forward the following message to this list, as it
contains information that may be useful for list members.
Since July 1, 2003, access to the BioOne full text database has been via
BioOne's main
server (www.bioone.org <http://www.bioone.org>). This server provides
the necessary
functionality for searching and browsing the full complement of BioOne
journals.
Effective 1 July 2003, CSA <http://www.csa.com>(Cambridge Scientific
Abstracts) and
BioOne <http://www.BioOne.org%20> announced an agreement for CSA to
function as
BioOne's exclusive distribution agent in all areas outside the U.S. and
Canada. As part of
this agreement, CSA is creating a bibliographic database that indexes
the research papers
available through BioOne's full text service. The BioOne bibliographic
database will be
available via CSA's well-known IDS service and link to the full text
articles contained on
the BioOne server. It is anticipated that the database will be
available in September
2003 and will be ATHENS compliant.
By having a bibliographic, indexed database available, users will now
have several ways
of locating relevant items in the BioOne database. They may search the
indexed records
on IDS, utilizing all the fielded search capabilities and then link
directly to an article on
the BioOne server. Alternatively, they can go directly to the BioOne
server and either
use the drop down boxes to search the full text or go to the archives
and browse by
journal issue to find the relevant full text articles. The BioOne server
will soon be ATHENS
compliant so remote workers can use this important service.
BioOne and CSA will continue to maintain the JISC pricing for academic
and community
college libraries through December 2003 and is in the process of
renegotiating BioOne's
agreement with the JISC for subsequent years.
