Hi,
Members of this list may like to see this email that I've just received
from Dawn Ingram at MetaPress, which helps to explain the variety of
problems some of us were experiencing yesterday with Springer journals.
It still seems a pity that nobody at MetaPress or Springer thought it
wise to inform us all in advance what was happening. Would that not
have been eminently sensible? That way the confusion that resulted for
members of the list yesterday, including myself, that had links to
Springer titles might have been avoided. Also, maybe timing such a
change at the weekend might have been better than the middle of the
week?
Cheers
Lesley

Dear Lesley and the other Listserv members,
My sincere apologies for the problems you are experiencing with your
"legacy" links to link.springer.de. MetaPress does have a system in
place that should repoint all legacy links to both the Springer Germany
server and the Springer New York server to the correct location on
springerlink.metapress.com. Once the two Springer offices made the
changes in their DNS server to point to the correct location at
MetaPress, it takes at least 24-48 hours for everything to resolve
correctly. As cached DNS records begin to expire around the world, the
redirect will be intermittent. Sometimes it will resolve to the old
site and sometimes it will resolve to the new site. This is why links
are working for some Universities, but not for all of them. The process
can sometimes take up to 48 hours.
I want to stress that the customers should not have to change any of
their old links at all to point to the new location. All links should
eventually resolve to the new site.
Again, I apologize for the confusion and inconvenience that this
situation has caused. Please do not hesitate to contact MetaPress if
you continue to experience problems.
Best wishes,
Dawn
