Terry's idea of an OpenActivate protocol sounds great! Yes, I would also
like to activate access at all possible hosts if our subscriptions entitle
us to do so -- and IF we had the necessary staff resources!
Since we are not paying (yet!) ingenta(select) to access journals to which
we are entitled to, publishers such as OUP must be paying them. Isn't it
in the publishers' interest that libraries and their users can access the
contents of these journals via ingenta(select)? If we have subscriptions
to access OUP journals online and have told the supplier (publisher or
agent) that we would like to access the journals via ingenta(select) as
well, why can't this request and the necessary authorisation information be
passed onto ingenta(select)?
I'm using OUP and ingenta(select) in this example but the same would apply
to other publishers and hosts.
Reading Sandra's question below I think there may be some misunderstanding
of the services offered by SerialsSolutions. (Or I may have misunderstood
the question!) I don't know about TDNet but subscribing to
SerialsSolutions
does not remove the need for libraries to ensure that access to e-journals
to which they subscribe is activated and working.
