On behalf of the Institute of Physics (IOP), I'm pleased to announce that e-mail alerting for our Electronic Journals service has been improved, making it even easier for users to set up and receive alerts and keep up-to-date with the publication of new articles within their chosen subject area.
Our e-mail alerting is free to all. Users do not need to be at a subscribing institution in order to take advantage of the feature. All that is required is for users to log in. If they don't already have a username and password they can create an account by selecting the 'Create account' button at the top right-hand corner of every page. Please note, however, for those journals outside their institution's subscription or licensing agreement, users will receive tables of content and abstract access only.
E-mail alerting is available from User Options (http://www.iop.org/EJ/options) and from every Web page within Electronic Journals by selecting the 'Alerts' link in the top right-hand corner.
Two types of e-mail alert are now available:
**Table of Contents (TOC) alerts**
Our standard TOC alerting service enables users to receive the Tables of Contents of their favourite IOP journals as soon as issues are published online. We can also
send monthly updates on our popular journal services such as IOP Select and IOP Physics Reviews.
**Enhanced alerts**
Our enhanced alerting service allows users to enter more flexible alerting criteria, including keywords, so that whenever articles matching their criteria are published
they automatically receive alerts containing their details.
I hope you find this new feature of interest. I would be grateful if you could pass it on to your library users. Further information about our new alerting system is available at http://www.iop.org/EJ/help/-topic=configjao.
