Thanks to all who replied to my e-mail re timescales for registration and
subsequent submission on Route B. Below is some information and extracts
from some the of replies I received which I hope will help others who were
confused about the timescale regulations.

Regards,

Caroline
(Now hoping to charter sooner than in 2 years time!)

My original message:

From Marion Huckle's mail:

> Indeed, candidates have often completed the qualifying period, registered
and submitted all within the space of a few weeks or even simultaneously.

Does "registered and submitted" in this context mean submission of:
- Registration of Professional Practice Form?
- PPDP: Personal Professional Development Plan
and
- CPRB: Certificate of Professional Training

and NOT the Application for Chartered membership? (I take it from the
literature that the Application for Chartered Membership is normally
submitted two years after submitting the PPDP for Route B)

If so, how far back can the PPDP be backdated to include work experience
already completed post-qualifying period? (I.e. In order to reduce the 2
year period from submission of PPDP until submission of Application for
Chartered Membership)

Sorry if this seems to be asking for obvious information but I am finding
information on chartering very confusing... (Still have not registered on
either route yet...)

Consolidation of replies and information on registration and submission on
Route B:

Registered means :

Form Reg B: Registration of Professional Practice and the PPDP and a copy of
your LIS certificate have been received, processed and acknowledged by the
Department. You are then entered on the candidate database and your contact
details are passed to the CDG Registration Liaison Officer who is your first
point of contact for help and advice.

Submitted means:The application for Chartered Membership has been sent in
(submitted) and passed to members of the Chartership Board for assessment.

If you have already completed the qualifying period for Route B (I.e have
worked two years or more full-time since getting your LIS degree) the PPDP
is principally retrospective - in this situation many candidates have chosen
to attach their training log as an indication of training and development
activities undertaken during the qualifying period. You will be
highlighting future training & development needs within your application.

On route B you can register with a PPDP covering training/development you
have already completed over the last 2 years or more. You can immediately
send in the report/application for membership covering that period.
So if you already have the experience you don't need to wait two years
before you can submit for membership.
if you have experience since gaining your qualification you can backdate
your chartership report and plan (for Route B) What you need to do is
register and send your PPDP in, then when you receive confirmation that you
are registered you can send off the certificate saying that you have
completed your training period. You can then go ahead and write your report
and apply for membership.

If you are unsure whether you have gained professional experience since
gaining your qualification you can send your CV to CILIP membership asking
for confirmation that you have gained enough experience to register
retrospectively for chartership. If you have more than two years experience
you need to be selective but not miss out anything important. You could for
example concentrate on two jobs (must include your current job) but it would
be wise to explain how experience in other jobs during the training period
has helped you in the two jobs.

Chartership meetings are considered very helpful so try to attend if there
are any in your area.

It is also worthwhile to contact CILIP if you are unsure about anything:

- If you are going away and are setting up an out-of-office auto-reply
message on your email, PLEASE SUSPEND YOUR MAIL from the list (see para 3 of
the How To... section below). If you don't, then everyone who writes to the
list while you're away will get a copy of your auto-reply sent to them. It's
very annoying!
