Depends whether you want to stay in this particular job forever?! When you come
to move on, if one hasn't kept up to date with what's happening outside the
narrow confines of one's own job, then there will be a lot of catching up
reading to do. I'd say keeping aware of things is part of professional good
practice, and that's what CILIP is trying to encourage, right from the start
