Hi Kayla
This was explained (or so I think) at the meeting in London on Monday. You
have to discuss things like disability act, people's network, CLA rules and
the like - you can get this info by joining the news alert from CILIP (and
of course by reading their trade mag).
Incidentally, what do your employers say about the usefulness of
chartering ? What annoys me most about the chartership format is that after
the MA we should be specialists, and not jack of all trades - so you have
to discuss standard awareness issues while you could be writing a wonderful
piece of scholastic research on Jewish libraries, for example, which of
course we mustn't do as we are against elitism.
This "across the board" approach doesn't work for me at all - if people are
specialists in Disability or People's Networks by all means, but I believe
in fragmentation (the only way forward in this profession) and specialism -
so it's a shame that under the present format we are not encouraged to
present a piece of work on what we know works, on specialised research or
expertise.
The only way the People's Network affects my life is the fact that my local
library looks more like Easynet than Borders, but this concerns my private
life, I don't see why the Chartership should mirror Update or CILIP news
service (with 1,000 people repeating the same thing).
But, "ours is not to reason why"
