The Course
Marketing continues to be an important area of information and library work
and is being undertaken by staff at all levels, across many sectors and in a
variety of ways.
This half-day course aims to:
* Give an over-view of Marketing principles and their importance to
information services
* Give practical examples of how Marketing is undertaken in several
sectors
* Give an opportunity for those involved in Marketing information
services to exchange ideas
This course is designed for information professionals involved in the
development and implementation of Marketing strategies and will be of
interest to CILIP Chartership candidates and ILS students.
Topics
Branding
David McMenemy or Kay Henderson, Department of Computer and Information
Sciences, University of Strathclyde.
Branding and its importance in promoting services, including a look at some
practical examples.
Marketing of On-line Services
Kerr Donaldson, Information Services Manager, Health Education Board for
Scotland.
Marketing of on-line services from the perspective of an information manager
- what has and hasn't worked at HEBS. Including: identifying users and their
needs; page design; elements of on-line marketing; monitoring, data
collection and analysis; integration with off-line marketing.
Library Marketing: the Stirling Perspective
Steve Dolman, Service Development Librarian, Stirling Council Libraries.
Practical marketing for library staff and librarians.
There will be a break for coffee and an opportunity to discuss some issues
raised by the course.
