Sam,
Have you tried contacting any of the recruitment agencies eg Instant Library, tfpl etc to see what they usually charge? Does CILIP have any recommendations?
The current Appointments has a large Instant Library advert on the front, including:
£11.50 per hour for experienced cataloguer for Govt dept,
£12 per hour for exp. cataloguer for a 'strategic body'
and £8 per hour for an Enquiry Desk Librarian for prestigious Govt body
So cataloguing is no longer the poor relation of the LIS world on this scale. Very interesting to see these rates, especially when as we all know Librarianship isn't the highest paid job in the world anyway.

Subject: Not strictly chartership
Dear All,
Not strictly chartership I am afraid, so I hope no one minds me using the
list!
I have been offered a bit of basic bibliographic work over the summer by a
small organisation who wish to pay me by the hour. However they haven't
quoted a rate and wish me to suggest a reasonable one. Any suggestions -
the work is fairly basic, checking their existing resources available list,
inserting missing bibliographic details and researching and adding new
titles which have become available.
Any suggests would be most helpful (on or off list).
Thanks
Sam
