Colleagues
I have taken the liberty of sending a message to the list as rather than a personal reply to Cathy and Molly. They have asked questions that do not contain personal details and I imagine are likely to be of interest to a larger group. I have inserted replieds into the message string.
I have used direct quotes from the handbook with additional comments that I hope will clarify these issues. Can I also say that the Qualifications Team ([log in to unmask]) are always happy to deal with candidates and anyone interested in chartering direct. Please don't feel embarrassed about asking questions about what you feel are fairly straightforward matters of procedure or fact - if you have not been able to find the answer we are here to help!

Subject: Re: Questions re Route B
These are points I have been wondering about too, could I add a question to
Molly's list:
What happens if you are being seconded on a temporary basis to a
professional post and you base you PPDP (Route B) on that post but then go
back to your substantive non-professional post?
Guidance Notes 9.1 PPDPs" The PPDP should be amended as and when changes occur in candidates work circumstances". The challenge in this situation is to ensure that you try to keep your professional awareness and personal development up-to-date by whatever means you can when your workplace access to training and development activities may be reduced. Do bear in mind that Board members are well aware that opportunities vary "and will take account of different experiences when assessing applications".
Many thanks
Cathy

Unlike Route A your PPDP does not have to be formally approved for you to register on Route B. Many candidates may have qualified for Route B prior to submitting a plan.

If you use the template Board members return comments in the column headed "Board comment". If you submit in a different format they will attach comments in the most appropriate manner.

For newly registering candidates currently completing an LIS course the qualifying period can start during the dissertation phase or the level 3 study of either a Masters or a Bachelors degree. For those who are registering retrospectively the qualifying period starts once you have gained your academic qualification and have a relevant full-time or part-time post.

They can be submitted separately - if it is submitted after registration it will contain a retrospective element. Some candidates will have completed the whole of the qualifying period for Route B before they register and must include PPDPs in their portfolio of evidence. (See the guidance notes 9 Route B Para 4)

Candidates can transfer between Route B and Route A. Staff in the department will discuss individual cases with candidates to help them decide the best way forward. Broadly Route A qualifying service on a formal training programme can be transferred to Route B qualifying service but Route B candidates who transfer to Route A are not exempt from the one-year full-time qualifying period. However, candidates in the position outlined by Molly may well find that they can benefit time wise by following their employers Route A scheme without formally transferring to Route A and make their won decision about when they are ready to submit.
