Hello,
Until just about two months ago I worked for the Information Commissioner which is an
official appointed by the queen and it is responsible for administering the Data
Protection Act and the Freedom of Information Act.
Trans-border information transfer refers to personal data transfers outside the UK and
the EU. We had a lot of enquiries by various data controllers on this issue as it can be a
complicated area. I know this is not, strictly speaking, a librarian's job, but as an
information professional, I am sure everybody needs to know about theses acts especially
if they handle personal data. There is a lot of information (maybe more than you would
need to know at this stage) on their website www.informationcommissioner.gov.uk . I
believe that this is what CILIP may have in mind when they ask you to talk about this but
I wouldn't know for sure as I haven't chartered yet. I would be grateful if those who know
could confirm this .

Dear all
Recently got around finally to finishing a retrospective PPDP for Route B
(having already done over 2 yrs service). However one section is sadly
lacking from Section 4: Information Environment & Policy.
Its 4.3 (How the candidate will obtain an understanding of....)the
importance of international and trans-border information transfer. I'm
afraid both my boss and I are at a loss for this one - so obviously I
haven't gained an understanding in my prefessional service thus far!!
Any tips from anyone?
