Dear All,
I lurk on the list as a chartered member and have been a member of the list
therefore for about 4 years. Firstly, I would like to say that I agree
completely with Leesha and Kate regarding the use of the list. Also, as a
chartered member I would have to disagree with Emilce as I do think
chartership is worth it. Even if it does not affect your pay (and I have
been in a job where it resulted in a higher pay scale) but also for your
own personal development. I personally found the chartership process a
great learning opportunity. It provided me with the opportunity to attend
courses and visit other libraries (which is not always easy when working in
an NHS library!) It also made me think about how I was developing in my
first post and how I wanted to develop my skills to move on in the future.
When it came to the PDR whilst I wouldn't deny it was time-consuming it was
a great opportunity to reflect on my skills and the profession as a whole.
I may be alone in this experience but I suspect not.
So, I hope everyone out there doesn't give up in light of recent comments
on this list and good luck.
Amanda
P.S. For those struggling to write-up I found it helpful to take an extra
day off work next to a bank holiday and wrote the whole thing in four days.
I then did some editing over the next 3 weeks before sending it off. It
worked for me as my PDR was accepted first time.
