I have to admit to not being as familiar with the new regulations as I'd like,
but yes I think this is the case

I'd say a bit of both. You will inevitably come across/produce things along the
way which will make ideal pieces of evidence for your portfolio. However, the
compilation and evaluation might most usefully occur at the end of the process,
closer to submission. Basically, don't thrown *anything* away for the next 2
years ;-)
