Dear All,
Is it me, or do most financial directors in institutions have an "unhelpful"
attitude to libraries (sometimes short of contempt). Is this something
confined to health services or is it more widespread?
It's a point one can perhaps politely explain in a chartership report, and
allows one to enlighten the philistines as to the beneficial purposes and
outcomes of libraries.
But it is rather an unhelpful attitude on the part of the bean counters. It
reminds me of the political officers of the old Soviet Union. Their job was
to ensure everyone was singing from the same (political) hymn sheet, but in
reality were spies who would cheerfully send their families to the gulag if
they thought they could advance themselves.
I must be having a bad day.
