Following my enquiry yesterday, several of you are in the same position and
wanted to know about doing a retrospective PPDP. I'm just finishing mine
(hence yesterdays request) so while no expert, here's "why and how" in my
case.
I have worked in a small institution for over 2 years but the subject of
chartership never came up - all my professional colleagues are chartered
long ago and there is no formal procedure or programme here. However, I
decided I should make a start and it seemed, because of the set-up here,
that Route B was the way to go. Both my boss and I didn't see the point of
devising a Route A 1 year programme, as I'd already worked here 2 years.
Plus looking at the sorts of things involved, I'd already covered most of
the things required - one of the advantages of the small institution, you
become a jack-of-all-trades.
So using the PPDP template from the recent regulations across the top
(Training Need/Action/Outcome/Timescale), I have covered the 6 sections of
the eventual Application, like the Route A template really, but because its
retrospective, the timescale is complete for some, others are ongoing. By
making sure everything is covered in the PPDP now, I hope I'll be able to
comment in some way on every section for the Application.
As I said earlier, most sections were easy enough to complete from my own
work experience here (the fact that its taken a while is down to
procrastination on my part - hopefully the actual application won't be
dragged out!) Plus when you think back about what you've experienced,
training received etc. you'd be surprised how many sections you can fill.
The Portfolio is a separate issue but luckily I hadn't thrown out much so I
still had lots of documentation from the previous two years!
If you get stuck on any sections, I discovered yesterday that this list is
a great help.
