Dear LCG site managers,
given the ever increasing number of sites joining the LCG-1 system, we
decided to create a new Information System Region to avoid overloading
the lcgeast region.
The new region is called lcgsouth and, at least in the beginning, will
include Italian and Spanish sites.
Andrea Chierici at INFN-CNAF in Bologna and Gonzalo Merino at PIC in
Barcelona have already set up two new Regional MDS nodes which will
collect and publish data from all sites in the new region.
If your site hosts a BDII node, then you must modify the configuration
of the BDII population program to include the new region with its two
servers. To do this you have to:
1) log on your BDII node as root
2) cd to /opt/edg/etc
3) edit the bdii-cron.conf file. The definition of MDS_HOST_LIST should
be changed to look like this:
MDS_HOST_LIST="
adc0026.cern.ch:2135/lcg00108.grid.sinica.edu.tw:2135
lcgcs01.gridpp.rl.ac.uk:2135
wn-02-37-a.cr.cnaf.infn.it:2135/pic115.ifae.es:2135
"
Note: with this setting, the CNAF Regional MDS will be queried first,
while the PIC server will only be used if the CNAF one is down. If you
have a better connection to Spain than to Italy, then you may want to
switch the order of the two servers and use the node in Barcelona as
your first choice.
After you save the file, the new settings will be used the next time the
population program runs on your BDII. This happens every ten minutes.
Please announce on the LCG-Rollout list when you have done this
modification so that I can check if your BDII can correctly see the new
Region.
For Italian and Spanish sites only: later today or tomorrow (it depends
on how fast the BDII update process goes) I will publish the
instructions on how to move your Site GIIS from the old region, lcgeast,
to the new one, lcgsouth.
Cheers
Emanuele
