Dear All,
I have been asked to come up with a project for an MSc student and I have
had various thoughts on tying their possible project in with my work for
the Environment Agency. A lot of my work is with the River Habitat Survey
and two bits of information required by this project are planform
(sinuosity of river) and valley form (eg. is it a deep-vee, concave or
symmetrical valley).
I am hoping the student will learn to program in Avenue and tackle these
problems and compare results derived by GIS with the already manually
collected data.
Now I know sinuosity of a river has been covered in detail by
geomorphologist but what about valley form, has any work been done on using
a GIS system to say it a valley is symetrical or a classic U-shaped glacial
form?
I look forward to any advice or top tips from you GIS gurus!
Duncan
