Temporary map compiler
The British Antarctic Survey (BAS), part of the Natural Environment Research Council, aims to undertake a world-class programme of scientific research, and to sustain for the UK an active and influential regional presence and a leadership role in Antarctic affairs.
The BAS Mapping and Geographic Information Centre requires a map compiler to work at our offices in Cambridge for 12 weeks between August and November 2003.
Working within a small team you will prepare maps for use by field scientists during the 2003-04 Antarctic field season, using satellite imagery and aerial photography sources.
You should have a degree in geography, topographic science or geology and experience of working with maps, satellite images and aerial photographs. A further requirement is experience with GIS, Image Analysis and photo-editing software. Specific expertise with Arc/Info and ERDAS Imagine software would be an advantage.
This is a full time position (working 37 hours per week), and the salary will be £16,010 per annum pro rata. In addition to this you will be entitled to paid leave at the rate of 25 days (pro rata) and flexible working hours.
