Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea
SENIOR GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION (GI) ANALYST
(Permanent Position)
£22,800 - £30,800 incl. Average PRP bonus
* Are you looking for a senior GIS role in a local authority?
* Have you at least two years relevant experience and the
personal qualities to enthuse users and managers about
geographical information and GIS?
The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea was recently
listed as an Excellent local authority by the Audit Commission
and it's our drive to deliver Excellent GIS services to all our
users.
Corporately we support all staff through an in-house ArcIMS
intranet GIS operating with SDE and SQLServer. On the desktop
we have over 100 users running a mixture of ArcGIS, MapInfo
and GGP systems. We also have some mobile users running
Arcpad. We are internet ready to deliver ArcIMS applications on
the web. The RBKC web-site is one of the first to be awarded the
RNIB's See-It-Right Accessible Website logo and has an Internet
Crystal Mark (see www.rbkc.gov.uk).
One of your key roles will be to devise and implement a strategy
for supporting our GIS users, part of which will involve chairing
the GIS User Group, as well as devising and providing
appropriate training. You will also undertake GIS projects as they
arise, including some application development, and will have a
supervisory role for other GI analysts in the team.
Your primary experience should be in the ESRI product family
but you must demonstrate willingness and ability to rapidly learn
our other supported GIS if they are unfamiliar to you. You should
be an expert ArcGIS user, with proficiency in ArcMap and
ArcCatalog and have at least six months experience of
developing VB applications within ArcGIS.
You should have good knowledge of ArcIMS and be confident
about supporting applications. Though not essential there could
be opportunities for you to enhance our Intranet GIS applications
if you have ASP and scripting skills.
The RBKC GIS Unit is part of the Information Systems Division
and has 6 full-time staff. We are currently awaiting the outcome
of an ODPM e-Government bid to lead in partnership four other
London Boroughs developing joined-up web GIS applications. If
successful this will add a further two or three staff to our team.
The team is currently being assessed for ISO9000 and we are
committed to quality in all aspects of our work with a strong
customer focus.
We offer excellent staff benefits, including travel allowances and
a final-salary pension scheme. Full details with pack.
