Notice of forthcoming position for GIS Data Manager
Background
We will shortly be advertising for a GIS data manager to provide database
support for a research team investigating the epidemiology and control of a
number of animal diseases in Great Britain.
The immediate research project involves assisting in the management and
manipulation of a number of geo-referenced databases relevant to
understanding why cattle are contracting tuberculosis.
This is a recently established position with considerable potential for
initiative and career development within the field of scientific
applications of GIS.
Main duties
Manage, manipulate and maintain a number of large geo-referenced databases.
Produce high quality graphical and mapped output.
Collaborate closely with other GIS data managers, IT specialists and
veterinary epidemiologists.
Qualifications and experience
The job is most suitable for a graduate with postgraduate training in GIS.
A good working knowledge of ArcView or ArcGis (or their equivalents) is
required.
Experience with Access and GIS programming (Avenue or Visual Basic) would
be advantageous.
Team working is an essential part of the job, as is a high standard of
documentation.
Terms and conditions
The position is a 2-year fixed term contract, within the civil service.
The salary range for the post is between £17,000 to £25,000.
