Can I remind you that Nominations for the Royal Astronomical Society Awards are now due, and must be submitted before the end of October 2003. The RAS Awards web page can be found at
http://www.ras.org.uk/html/nominations/nom_intro.html
and states the following:
"RAS Awards
The RAS seeks nominations for awards to be presented in 2004. The deadline for nominations to be received at Burlington House is:
2003 October 31
Nominations are sought for a number of awards in astronomy (including astrobiology, cosmochemistry, astroparticle physics, computational astrophysics, etc.) and geophysics (including geophysical fluid dynamics, planetary sciences, solar-terrestrial physics, etc.). "
Please note, that as well as the Gold and Chapman medals, both of which may be given to Geophysicists, two new awards, the Fowler Award for Geophysics and the RAS Award for services to Astronomy and Geophysics have been introduced this year. The Harold Jeffreys lecturer for 2004/5 has also to be nominated. Information on all of these may be found at the above web-site.
Lists of previous award holders can be found at
http://www.ras.org.uk/html/ras_pdfprize.html
Can I strongly encourage you to nominate those you believe should be honoured in this way.
